The iCon

Welcome to TDT’s exciting new step into the future of neuroscience hardware and behavioral control.

The iCon is a unique hardware and software platform designed for users to do build-out and perform any applications they need for their experiments all in one place.

Any module combination can be used to make an iCon, which means we can provide customers with a mix-and-match setup that provides broad coverage for many experimental designs but no redundancies. This also means that you get the most value out of your system for the lowest cost.

TDT currently has over 28 modules available and we are also constantly designing new modules for future additions to the platform.

High Throughput Behavior Recording

The iPac Behavioral Controller

The iPac is a system for high throughput behavioral neuroscience, allowing you to run up to 8 behavioral experiments at the same time.

Manage all of your behavior boxes concurrently with independent behavioral paradigms. For example, control a self administration task in one chamber and a startle response in another.

Train subjects with the iPac and then seamlessly migrate your experimental animal to integrate with your fiber photometry or other neuroscience techniques, or scale up your behavioral neuroscience projects by running multiple paradigms and subjects at once.

Simplified Behavioral State Control

Pynapse

Pynapse is a modern coding interface for controlling event-driven behavior and performing closed-loop studies.

Pynapse is a full Python-based programming environment with built-in autocomplete to assist with coding. Pynapse has smart controls to talk to iCon behavior inputs and outputs, such as lever presses, nose pokes, and pellet dispensers, and drives event-based behavioral states.

Why TDT?

When you choose a TDT behavioral neuroscience recording system you choose legacy, innovation, and commitment. Every system is designed and assembled at our headquarters in Alachua, Florida by our long-time employees.

Legacy

Tucker-Davis equipment has been incorporated into behavioral neuroscience experiments since our companies founding. Early use of our System II equipment showed that TDT systems were early leaders in precision coordination of analog and digital IO capture and triggering [10.3758/bf03192744], and this was further extended with our System 3 RX devices [doi: 10.1152/jn.00028.2010]. We have kept pushing the possibilities for behavioral neuroscience capture and control with our robust RZ processors as well as important innovations from our iCon platform.

Innovation

The journey of our behavioral equipment began with simple digital and analog inputs/ outputs to trigger external devices, capture timestamps, or deliver TDT-generated stimuli. However, we realized that complete integration of each component was necessary to exceed the expectations of our customers and to deliver the best product possible. This meant that we needed to build our own devices to directly control common operant cage and behavioral neuroscience devices. This lead to the development of the iCon platform. Researchers latched on immediately to the critical gap that the iCon was filling between third-party operant control and their precision TDT recordings [10.1126/sciadv.adr5051]. TDT has sold hundreds of iCon modules within its short release, proving that TDT is a main driver of innovation in the neuroscience field.

Commitment

A full-time Technical Support staff is a part of your system for free and for life. You call us and we pick up. We are experts with advanced degrees in neuroscience and neural engineering and take great pride in making sure you get the best experience possible out of using our top-tier recording system. We challenge you to find a researcher who has worked with our Support team who would not recommend us first.
