OpenProject Won't Close

Issue

Some Windows updates reset DCOM security and can corrupt OpenWorkbench's permissions, so the close handshake with OpenProject is blocked trying to launch the WorkEngine server. Fixing the Launch & Activation permission restores it. This may be a recurring issue with future Windows updates, so if it happens again run these same steps.

Workaround

  1. Go to Start > dcomcnfg

  1. Navigate to Component Services → Computers → My Computer → DCOM Config → right-click on "XpMaker” and select Properties

  1. In Properties, go to Security → Launch and Activation Permissions → Edit
  2. Ensure your user/Interactive has Local Launch + Local Activation allowed, with no Deny.)
