ActiveX Examples

The worked examples that used to appear here have been superseded by the TDT wrappers, one per ActiveX control, available for both MATLAB and Python. Each is considerably easier to use than calling the control directly, and they are the recommended starting point for new code.

Control Wrapper Guide
RPcoX TDTRP TDTRP User Guide
PA5x TDTPA5 TDTPA5 User Guide
zBUSx TDTZBUS TDTZBUS User Guide

The wrappers collapse the common operations into single calls: connecting to a device, loading a circuit and reading or writing tags with TDTRP; setting attenuation with TDTPA5; firing triggers by name rather than by numeric code with TDTZBUS. They also check the return values and error flags that each control reports differently.

Use this reference when you need the detail behind a wrapper call, or when you are working directly with the controls.

The wrappers and the example scripts install with the ActiveX package into:

C:\TDT\ActiveX\ActXExamples\Matlab
C:\TDT\ActiveX\ActXExamples\py

or you can download them in the ActiveX Controls example zip.

Developing a Program

The steps to develop a program against System 3 hardware are unchanged whether you use the wrappers or the controls directly:

Step 1: Design a circuit using RPvdsEx.

Step 2: Create a Control Object File (*.rco or *.rcx).

Step 3: Load and run that circuit from your program.
