The iCon Platform - iCon Caddie and iCon Modules
The signature design of the iCon is its modular hardware architecture. A module in the iCon platform, such as the iA4 differential bioamplifier, is a specialized piece of equipment meant to do one specific thing. Think of it like a tool in a toolbox – if you want to build a bookshelf you need many different tools (screwdrivers, hammer, saw, sandpaper, paintbrush) but each tool only does one thing. TDT currently has many different modules available to perform operant control, fiber photometry, low channel count and high channel count electrophysiology, video tracking, sound presentation, aversive stimulation, digital IO, and many other neuroscience tasks. We are also constantly designing new modules for future additions to the platform.

Any module combination can be used in the iCon, which means we can provide customers with a mix-and-match setup that provides broad coverage for many experimental designs but no redundancies. This also means that customers get the most value out of their system for the lowest cost.
Plus, teaching new students to use the equipment is streamlined and easy. Not to mention that our dedicated support team is with you every step of the way at no extra cost. Lastly, everything is controlled, time-synchronized, and saved by our Synapse software, so you can design experiments and record multi-faceted data with no extra hassle.
Below is an illustration of a bare iCon caddie being populated with a module in its first (topmost) slot. Modules will be automatically detected by Synapse so there is no additional configuration needed after the physical hardware is setup.
