Hibernate and Standby cause communication failure

Tech Note: TN0174
Product: PI5
Version: All

Issue

When using the Gigabit PC interface, TDT hardware is not compatible with the Windows Standby and Hibernate features. These features automatically set your computer to a low power state or turn it off to conserve power during periods of inactivity. When your PC goes into one of these modes communication will be lost between your PC and System 3 Hardware. When activity resumes any software actions that require communication with the hardware will fail. You will also get a Null card error on opening zBusMon.

Solution

We recommend configuring PC Power Options to never use these modes when using your PC for TDT applications.

To configure power options:

  1. Right-click the Windows desktop and click Properties

  2. In the Display Properties dialog box click the Screen Saver tab and click Power.

  3. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, choose Never for each Standby and Hibernate setting.
