Question: When should I update to a new version of TDT software?

Answer: Update your TDT software when you want or need a new feature that is only in the updated software or when the new software fixes an anomaly that makes using the old software difficult.

Question: When I update TDT software what do I need to update?

Answer: It is important to understand that there are several layers of TDT software and that these layers can often be interdependent.

The lowest level layer is the “microcode”, or program code, that resides on the RPx modules.

The next layer includes the TDT drivers and RPvds. The TDT drivers include libraries and system files critical to controlling the hardware and RPvds provides access to the hardware through a graphical environment for programming the RPx modules. The TDT drivers and RPvds are bundled together for installation.

ActiveX controls are wrappers that allow you to access the same libraries of functions that are included in the TDT drivers.

The highest level includes turn-key applications, such as OpenEx and SigGenRP, that use the TDT drivers and hardware for a specific task. In some cases turn-key software works with another software applications. For example, SigPlayRP and SigGenRP work together and SigPlay cannot be used unless SigGenRP is also installed.

When upgrading TDT drivers the microcode should also be updated. Microcode updates are typically bundled with the TDT drivers and RPvds but must be loaded to the RPx devices in a separate step. Instructions for updating or “reprogramming” the microcode are available in the TDT help file.

When upgrading turn-key applications check the Download page of the TDT Website to find out if you also need to update drivers, ActiveX controls, and/or other interdependent turn-key applications.

Question: In what order should I install TDT software?

Answer: TDT drivers should always be installed before any other software. After the TDT drivers have been installed turn-key software can be installed in any order.
