Preamplifiers and Digital Headstages

Since TDT developed the first digital biological amplifier system in the mid 1990’s, our battery-powered, optically isolated, direct digital designs have become an industry standard.

From headstage to base station, acquired signals flow through an optimized path designed to provide the best signal-to-noise and dynamic range possible. By digitizing biological signals at or near the headstage and transmitting them over a lossless fiber optic cable, we avoid the noise inherent in a traditional wired cable.

Z-Series
TDT’s high-count Z-Series preamplifiers feature a fast fiber optic connection and extended bandwidth, supporting sampling rates up to ~50 kHz and improving signal fidelity, spike discrimination, sorting, and analysis.

PZ2 Preamplifier for headstages compatible with high impedance probes, such as silicon electrodes, metal microelectrodes or microwire arrays.

32, 64, 96, 128, or 256 channels

PZ3 Integrated Preamplifer and Headstage for use with low impedance electrodes, such as needle electrodes, surface electrodes and electrode caps.

32, 64, or 128 channels

ZIF-Clip® Digital Headstages and Connection Manifold
Used exclusively with the RZ line of processors and features a fast fiber optic connection and extended bandwidth, supporting sampling rates up to ~50 kHz.

ZCD Headstages and the PZ4 Connection Manifold digitize at the headstage utilizing an integrated amplifier chip to yield a low noise electrode recording interface. Ideal for recording from awake behaving animals, such as rats and mice, where size and low wire count are critical.

Suitable for high impedance probes, such as silicon electrodes, metal microelectrodes or microwire arrays.

Medusa
Medusa preamplifiers are smaller, lower-count preamplifiers that use the legacy System 3 fiber optic connection and are capable of digitizing at up to ~25 kHz.

RA16PA Preamps support both headstages suitable for use with high impedance or low impednace electrodes. Available with either PCM or Sigma-Delta A/Ds.

Adjustable Gain
Therse preamplifiers use the legacy System 3 fiber optic connection and are capable of digitizing at up to ~25 kHz.

RA8GA PreAmps are general-purpose digitizers that acquires and digitize multi-channel data from a variety of analog voltage sources including eye-trackers, intracellular or extracellular amplifiers, pH meters, and temperature sensors.
