Issue:
After WindowsXP Service Pack 2 is installed, OpenContoller can no longer access OpenWorkbench. New security settings, included in the service pack, affect the performance of client/server applications.
Workaround:
If you have installed, or wish to install, Windows XP Service Pack 2 on a computer using OpenEx, then you must follow the steps below to be able to run OpenController successfully. Note that these steps are to be carried out after installing SP2 and OpenEx.
Open the Start menu at the bottom left corner of the Windows XP Desktop
Select ‘Run’.
Type ‘dcomcnfg’ and select ‘OK’.
In the dialog box that opens, double-click the
following keys in the given order:
‘Component Services’
‘Computers’
‘My
Computer’
‘DCOM
Config’
Select ‘XpMaker’. Right-click on it and select ‘Properties’.
In the Properties box, select the ‘Security’ tab.
In the ‘Launch and Activation’ group, select ‘Customize’ and click ‘Edit’.
In the dialog box that opens, you will see two lists – the upper one shows all the users groups that you can configure, the lower one shows the launch and activation rights for the selected group. There will be four entries in the lower list – ‘Local Launch’, ‘Remote Launch’, ‘Local Activate’, and ‘Remote Activate’.
Select a group in the upper list.
Deny them the right to ‘Local Launch’ and ‘Remote Launch’.
Allow them the right to ‘Local Activate’ and ‘Remote Activate’.
Repeat 9-11 for each group in the upper list.
